FluTrends furthers its commitment to global flu prevention through involvement with BARDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

San Diego, CA, June 7-9, 2011 — FluTrends International Corporation was proud to raise awareness for their upcoming, naturally-derived flu-prevention product as well as their global initiative to prevent the spread of influenza at the June 2011 Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) Industry Day.

FluTrends is committed to providing protection, solutions and services as they work towards a definitive cure for the flu. During this three-day event, FluTrends was able to engage other industry, government and academic stakeholders in a larger discussion of ways to better achieve BARDA’s mission. BARDA manages both the Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE) and Project BioShield, whose goals include the development and procurement of advanced medical countermeasures for pandemic influenza and other emerging infectious diseases.

According to Founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Steven Schwartz, attending BARDA Industry Day allowed FluTrends to “achieve a deeper level of understanding of how its products fit into the pandemic preparedness plan, encouraging us to explore more opportunities to prevent this deadly disease.”    

BARDA is a group within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services whose mission is to present an integrated, systematic approach to the development and purchase of necessary vaccines, drugs, therapies and diagnostic tools for public health medical emergencies.

FluTrends was founded in 2009 to fulfill its mission of saving lives, reducing morbidity and lessening the economic impact of influenza with the intent to eliminate it in the next decade. It is dedicated to the development and commercialization of flu-prevention products through a multi-layered program using research, biotechnology and personal protection.
